TO FAST OR TO SEEK JUSTICE
THE ISAIAH FIFTY-EIGHT:6 PRINCIPLE

"Is it such a fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke".
~Isaiah 58:6

Almost every Christian lawyer or  law student is familiar with these lines.....

"Keep ye judgment and do justice God's salvation near to come,
People fall prey to injustice rise to give them all succor,
Our revealing is awaited, a world of difference to make,
Here we are Lord to advocate may your will be done through us".

Far from being a song, that above verse is a pledge. There are thousands and countless number of innocent and indigent people who can't access justice because they do not have the financial capacity needed to prosecute their matters.Widows who are oppressed, poor people who are marginalized. Its our responsibility to meet God's heartbeat.Speak out for them and if you can"t, get someone to do so.

“Learn to do right; seek justice, encourage the oppressed, defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow”.
 ~Isaiah 1:17

Just as Jesus told the people in Matthew 23:23:

"Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith:these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone".

I believe that we ought to observe our fasts, givings and other beneficial spiritual activities without omitting the weightier matters-justice, mercy and faith.
Enjoy these quotes  on the subject  "Justice".

  • “There is no virtue so truly great and godlike as justice”.~JOSEPH ADDISON
  • “Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals”.~MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.
  • "What does it all come to? Surely this, that if we seek truth and justice, we cannot find it by argument and debate, nor by reading and thinking, but only by the maintenance of true religion and virtue. Religion concerns the spirit in man whereby he is able to recognize what is truth and what is justice; whereas law is only the application, however imperfectly, of truth and justice in our everyday affairs. If religion perishes in the land, truth and justice will also. We have already strayed too far from the faith of our fathers. Let us return to it, for it is the only thing that can save us".~LORD ALFRED THOMPSON DENNING
  • “Oppression makes a poor country”. ~WILLIAM PENN
  • “Corn can't expect justice from a court composed of chickens”. ~AFRICAN PROVERB
  • “If you want peace, work for justice”. ~ POPE PAUL VI
  • “Justice denied anywhere diminishes justice everywhere”. ~MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.
  • “Woe to those who enact unjust statutes and who write oppressive decrees, depriving the needy of judgment and robbing my peoples’ poor of their rights, making widows their plunder, and orphans their prey”.~ THE HOLY BIBLE ISAIAH 10:1-2.
  • “It is better to risk saving a guilty person than to condemn an innocent one”.~ VOLTAIRE
  • “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly”. ~ MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.
